TAN Garstang | Sunbed Safety & Salon Policy

At TAN, the safety and wellbeing of our clients is extremely important to us. We are committed to promoting responsible tanning practices and ensuring a safe, clean and professional environment for all customers.

Age Policy

Tanning services are strictly for individuals aged 18 and over.

We operate a Challenge 25 policy, meaning customers may be asked to provide valid photographic identification before using our sunbeds.

Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence
  • Government issued ID

Anyone unable to provide valid identification will be refused service.

First Session Guidance

For new customers, we recommend a shorter first session of approximately 3–6 minutes. This allows us to ensure your skin responds comfortably to the sunbed and helps reduce the risk of burning. Our team may provide guidance on recommended session times.

Responsible Tanning

We encourage all clients to tan responsibly and follow recommended session guidelines. Customers should avoid overexposure and allow appropriate time between sessions. TAN reserves the right to refuse service if we believe tanning may pose a health risk.

Lotions & Products

To protect our equipment and maintain hygiene standards, only salon-approved tanning lotions may be used on our sunbeds. If you wish to use your own product, please show it to a member of staff before use so we can confirm it is suitable. Certain products may damage the acrylic on tanning beds and may therefore not be permitted.

Children & Waiting Area

Children are not permitted in tanning rooms. Children may wait in the reception area but must remain under the supervision of their parent or guardian at all times. TAN cannot accept responsibility for unattended children.

Bed Maintenance

Our sunbeds are regularly cleaned, maintained and serviced. When lamps are replaced (retubed), customers may again be advised to begin with shorter sessions to ensure comfort and safety.

Customer Responsibility

Customers are responsible for:

  • Following guidance provided by staff
  • Using sunbeds responsibly
  • Informing staff of any concerns regarding skin sensitivity

If you have any questions about tanning safely, our team will always be happy to help.

Customer Acknowledgement and Acceptance of Risk

Before using TAN’s UV tanning equipment, every customer must read and agree to this Sunbed Safety & Salon Policy.

By completing the customer consultation form and choosing to proceed with a tanning session, the customer confirms that they understand UV tanning carries known risks, including sunburn, skin and eye damage, premature skin ageing and an increased risk of skin cancer.

The customer accepts responsibility for their voluntary decision to use the equipment and agrees to:

  • provide complete and accurate information during their consultation
  • disclose relevant medication, health conditions, skincare products and treatments
  • follow all instructions and exposure times provided by TAN staff
  • wear approved eye protection throughout every session
  • stop the session and inform staff if they experience burning, pain, dizziness or unusual discomfort
  • avoid additional UV exposure contrary to the advice provided

Use of our services is at your own risk. TAN Northwest Ktd will not be liable for any personal injury, allergic reaction or health complications arising from the use of our services or products, except where such liability cannot be excluded

Health Disclaimer

Tanning may not be suitable for all skin types. Customers with certain medical conditions or who are taking medications that increase light sensitivity should consult a medical professional before using sunbeds.
